We invite you to embrace an authentic West through an afternoon of empowerment, leadership and art at the Stardale Women’s Group Showcase.
Stardale will hold an afternoon community event as part of the kick-off to the Way out West Fest. On display will be student art work, and a fashion show with designs from the uptown western shop, Cody & Sioux.
Be sure not to miss an amazing short play entitled “Committing” – a performance creation on youth suicide prevention co-created by the Stardale girls and Eugene Stickland. This short play will leave you in awe of the girl’s tremendous courage and resiliency in the face of the life’s challenges in growing up Indigenous in Canadian society today.
BONUS: We’ve added a musical and artistic component as well – there will be hoop dancers, jiggle dancers and shawl dancers, as well as music from the First Nations Music Project.
DETAILS: Afternoon begins at 3:00 p.m. at the Lantern Church. As we’re still rounding out the afternoon’s entertainment, please check back as schedule details are release.
Ticket Price: By Donation. This event is intended to benefit the Stardale Charity – a group which works directly with indigenous girls to enhance their lives and give them the opportunity to grow their confidence. Way Out West Fest does not monetarily benefit from this event and all donation proceeds will go directly to Stardale. We encourage you to donate as generously as possible – we feel it’s a very worthwhile hands-on group! You may find more information about the work Stardale does at http://www.stardale.org/index.php
